Is IR Photography possible with the Canon Rebel XSi?

I’d like to try Infrared photography with my Canon Rebel XSi, but I’ve read in a number of places that this is not possible unless I crack my camera open and remove certain components (which I have NO intention of doing). Can’t this be done any other way? Maybe from a RAW photo, software or something of the sort? Any advice and/or tutorial links will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!

You have the option of post processing the effect of IR with software and Photo Shop. IR effects utilize the diffuse glow feature in photoshop along with other techniques to give the IR feel without having to resort to physically (and permanently) modifying your Canon.

Trying IR photography using your Canon will require the permanent modification of the unit meaning you would have to purchase a second Canon for regular photography.
